Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 20, 2026
1. Who we are
WeSimplyHome Money (money.wesimplyhome.com) is a small household expense tracker used by families in Hong Kong and India. If you have a question about this policy, or want us to do something with your data, use the feedback form on the home page.
This page sits alongside our Terms of Use. Where the two overlap, this page is the more specific and more recent statement.
2. What we hold
- Your account — your name, your password (stored only as a hash, never in plain text), and your phone number if you use WhatsApp.
- Your household’s money — transaction amounts, descriptions, categories and dates, kitty top-ups and balances, and salary or loan records if you use those features.
- Receipt images — the photographs you or your helper send. These are stored, and section 4 says for how long.
- WhatsApp messages — the text you send to the bot, so it can work out what you meant.
3. Information about your helper
If you record a helper’s name, salary, loans or the expenses they made on your behalf, that is personal information about someone who is not the person holding the account. It deserves saying plainly: your helper has an interest in that record even though you created it.
Please record only what you need to run the household — a name, amounts, and dates. We ask you not to enter identity document numbers, immigration details, or anything about a person’s health or religion. We do not use this information for any purpose of our own, and we never sell it. If your helper asks to see or correct what is held about them, you can show and change it directly in the app, and we will help if you need us to.
4. How long we keep things
- Receipt images are kept for six months, then deleted automatically. What the receipt said — the amount, the description, the date, the category — stays in your records for as long as your account is open. Only the photograph goes.
- Everything else stays while your account is open. Ask us to delete your household and we remove it from the live database.
- Backups lag behind. We keep encrypted backups on a rolling seven-day cycle plus a monthly snapshot, so something you deleted can still sit in a backup for a short period before it is overwritten.
5. Reading a receipt with AI
When you send a receipt photograph, we pass it to Google’s AI to read the amount, the merchant and the date, so you do not have to type them. The text of your WhatsApp messages is passed to the same service so the bot can work out what you meant.
- Google does not train on it. We use Google’s paid API, under terms in which content sent to it is not used to develop or improve Google’s models, and is not kept beyond the short period needed to answer the request.
- It crosses a border. The request is served outside Hong Kong and India.
- You can avoid it. Typing an expense straight into the app sends nothing to Google. Only receipt photographs and WhatsApp message text go.
6. Who else touches your data
- Google — reads receipt images and message text, as described above.
- Twilio — carries WhatsApp messages between you and the bot. Message content passes through their platform.
- Hetzner — hosts the server and the database, in Germany (Nuremberg). Your data is stored there, which means it leaves Hong Kong or India and is held in the European Union, under European data protection law.
That is the whole list. Nobody else receives your household’s data, and we do not sell it, share it for advertising, or use it to build profiles.
7. Your rights
Under Hong Kong’s Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance and India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, you can ask to access, correct or delete your personal data, and to receive a copy of it.
- See it — everything held about your household is visible in the app.
- Correct it — edit or delete any transaction yourself.
- Export it — download your transaction data from the app.
- Delete it — ask us and we will remove your household and everything in it.
To exercise any of these, email hello@wesimplyhome.com. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Changes to this policy
The app is in beta and still changing. If we start doing something materially different with your data, we will update this page and say so in the app rather than quietly change the wording.
